MindTree Q3 net down but revenue rises: Bangalore, India-based IT and product engineering services company MindTree said in a release January 18 that profit for its third quarter ended December 31, 2010, decreased 43.3 percent over the year-ago quarter to Rs 305 million. However, revenue grew 15.9 percent to Rs 3,848 million. Also, profit increased 31.3 percent over the preceding quarter. The scrip gained 2.41 percent to Rs 536 at the close of bells on the Bombay Stock Exchange, indicating that the market responded favourably to the results, which also reflected the amalgamation of MindTree Wireless into MindTree, effective April 1, 2010.

TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Bharti Airtel and Tata Communications in BCG Challengers list: In a report published January 18, The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has identified 100 global challengers, about half of which could qualify for inclusion in the Fortune Global 500 within the next five years, as per a BCG release. Some of the companies—selected from 16 countries—have already achieved international renown, including China’s Huawei Technologies, the world’s second-largest mobile telecom supplier, and Li & Fung Group, the world’s biggest sourcing company, the BCG release said. Among the IT / telecom companies included in the list are TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Bharti Airtel and Tata Communications, say media reports.
