Good morning! What’s up today….? It’s WhatsApp.
And what’s in a name… err app? Well, $19 billion, as that’s the price Facebook is paying to buy WhatsApp out. Could that give the likes of WeChat and Link a hike? Time will show, but the deal which is a record one for any venture-backed company as RadiumOne CEO Gurbaksh Chahal says (see here) will certainly help make messaging apps the flavor of new tech for the coming days.
Interestingly, both the WhatsApp cofounders Brian Acton and Jan Koum were earlier at the company that Merissa Mayer leads now. With the Facebook deal both of them must be saying Yahoo! again. Or shall we say, they have got their Yahoo! moment back!
One of the co-founders of WhatsApp, Brian Acton had tweeted back in August 2009 that Facebook had turned him down as a prospective employee… now he gets his sweet billion(s)… or should one say sweat billion(s)! WhatSay?
